The mission
Background
Over the past 12 months, BetaLab has developed for a client a medical rehabilitation device for people who have suffered a stroke or head trauma. The goal of the device is for patients to perform as much activity as possible in the three months following the incident, to maximize the effectiveness and speed of their rehabilitation.
Next steps
The device is currently being commercialized with a few simple activities. We now want to evolve them, create new ones, and add gameplay elements to maximize patient retention.
The device
Patients have at their disposal a sphere that they can rotate along three axes. There is also haptic feedback, braking, and controllable lighting integrated into the sphere (patented system). This provides great immersion when you “feel” in your hands what is happening on the screen, for example when you hit a wall or climb a hill.
The activities
These are arcade-type activities, very easy to handle and as addictive as possible. They differ by mixing motor and cognitive activities to adapt to the variety of patient profiles.
The visual identity is flat, low poly, and minimalist, to avoid overloading patients cognitively, and to be able to develop the games quickly by focusing on gameplay and interactions.
